Independent Study: Microfluidic Channel for Acoustic Particle Manipulation
To study acoustic microfluidic particle manipulation, a microfluidic channel was designed in AutoCAD and fabricated in a silicon wafer using potassium hydroxide etching and other cleanroom techniques. The first channel created was destructively tested and its fabrication techniques characterized; future channel development is outlined.
متن کاملPiezoelectric Actuators for In-Liquid Particle Manipulation in Microfluidic Applications
The possibility to generate acoustic modes based on FPWs (Flexural Plate Waves) in a generic non-piezoelectric substrate for microfludic applications by means of piezoelectric actuators has been explored and described in this paper. The FPW acoustic modes are generated by means of actuators made of Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) layers with InterDigital Transducers (IDTs) screen-printed on alumi...
متن کاملProgrammable v-type valve for cell and particle manipulation in microfluidic devices.
A new microfluidic valve or a "v-type valve" which can be flexibly actuated to focus a fluid flow and block a specific area of a microchannel is demonstrated. Valves with different design parameters were fabricated by multilayer soft lithography and characterized at various operating pressures. To evaluate the functionality of the valve, single microparticles (∅ 7 μm and ∅ 15 μm) and single cel...
متن کاملOptical manipulation and detection of biological cells in bio-microfluidic devices
Focused laser beams can be used to trap and manipulate small particles and biological cells without mechanical contact. Particles trapped by such a laser beam can be used as local force probes in biomicrofluidic environment. Optical manipulation and separation of biological cell is a flexible technology with important potential biomedical applications, like cancer cell detection. Optical forces...
متن کاملAn integrated acoustic and dielectrophoretic particle manipulation in a microfluidic device for particle wash and separation fabricated by mechanical machining.
In this study, acoustophoresis and dielectrophoresis are utilized in an integrated manner to combine the two different operations on a single polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) chip in sequential manner, namely, particle wash (buffer exchange) and particle separation. In the washing step, particles are washed with buffer solution with low conductivity for dielectrophoretic based separation to avoid th...
